FROM JOUBERTON TO SOUTHERN SUN, GARDEN COURT HOTEL, OR TAMBO:
VUSELELA GRADUATE BUILDS A SUCCESSFUL CAREER IN TOURISM
Vuselela TVET College proudly celebrates the success of Nkosinathi Kupiso, a Tourism graduate whose passion, determination and perseverance have led to a rewarding career in the hospitality and tourism industry.
Born and raised in Jouberton, Klerksdorp, Nkosinathi completed his secondary education at Matlosana Secondary School, where he studied Tourism, Consumer Studies and Computer Applications Technology. Inspired by his interest in the tourism industry, he enrolled for a Tourism programme at Vuselela TVET College's Potchefstroom Campus in 2018.
He successfully completed his N6 Tourism qualification in June 2019. Although his academic journey was not without challenges, Nkosinathi remained focused on achieving his goals. During his N5 studies, he faced difficulties with Financial Accounting, a subject he had never studied at school. Through dedication, extra effort and discipline, he overcame the challenge and passed the module successfully.
In addition to academic hurdles, Nkosinathi also experienced accommodation challenges while renting privately. His situation improved significantly when he was accepted into the student residence at Potchefstroom Campus, providing him with a stable and supportive environment that enabled him to complete his studies successfully.
One of the highlights of his time at Vuselela TVET College was planning a tour for an international student from Britain. This experience deepened his appreciation for the rich historical heritage of Potchefstroom and strengthened his practical tourism skills. He also had the opportunity to attend the Tourism Indaba in Durban, where he gained valuable exposure to the tourism and hospitality industry.
After completing his studies, Nkosinathi underwent an 18-month experiential training programme at Protea Hotel in Klerksdorp. The practical experience allowed him to apply the knowledge and skills he had gained during his studies in a professional hospitality environment. His commitment and excellent work ethic did not go unnoticed, and upon completing his training, he was offered a permanent position at the hotel.
Today, Nkosinathi continues to excel in the industry as a Night Auditor/Receptionist at Garden Court OR Tambo, where he delivers exceptional service to guests from around the world.
Reflecting on his journey, Nkosinathi says one of the most valuable lessons he received came from his lecturers, Ms Mokaleng and Ms Tyatya, during his first year at Vuselela TVET College.
"They taught me that a career in tourism is not driven by financial gain alone, but by passion. Success in this industry requires a genuine love for the work, the ability to engage with people from diverse backgrounds and a commitment to living the values of the organisation you represent."
His story serves as an inspiration to current and prospective students, proving that determination, resilience and passion can open doors to exciting career opportunities. Vuselela TVET College is proud of Nkosinathi's achievements and wishes him continued success as he continues to make a positive impact in South Africa's tourism and hospitality industry.
